Hot 100 restaurants 2015
Hot 100 restaurants 2015

Year-on-year, Zuma remains among Dubai’s most popular restaurants, jostling for the top slot with sister outlet La Petite Maison. Both eateries are regulars on the San Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurants list – and they’re the only two in Dubai currently featured.

Rainer Becker is the German-born, Tokyo-trained chef behind the global Japanese restaurant chain that began in London in 2002. It now boasts locations in New York, Hong Kong, Istanbul and Miami, as well as in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Rare are the nights when Zuma isn’t hosting a celeb or two. Cristiano Ronaldo was the last A-lister we spotted here.

Chef Becker is unfazed by fame. “I’ve never understood what a VIP is,” says Becker, despite having clientele that you might also find at the Oscars. “If you can’t treat a normal person who pays the same amount of money just as well, that doesn’t make sense to me.”

The menu selection is overwhelming. Try sharing these four plates: yellowtail sashimi with green chilli relish, ponzu and pickled garlic; crispy tofu salad; spicy beef tenderloin, and finally the ice cream-like sweet potato parfait – the ultimate dinner party for your mouth.
