Ramadan 2018: Iftar Review: Dallah Lounge, Emirates Golf Club

Being able to try some of the most sensational Arabic food with those you love, is one of the most precious joys of Ramadan. So as the Holy Month arrives for another year, we are delighted to be invited to try the seasonal offerings at Emirates Golf Club’s Dallah Lounge.

With the golf club’s rolling greens as a backdrop, we’re struck by the sheer size of the two-storey, air-conditioned tent, kitted out in rich purple and gold decor.

We arrive a little before sunset, to wander round and take in the atmosphere. But as soon as prayers are called, the room breaks its fast in unison, with some dates and water that have been delivered to the table.

Then it’s buffet time, and what a selection there is. At the salad station we pile up a plate with all of our mezze favourites. From hummus to baba ghanoush and fattoush – we tuck into a little bit of everything to begin our meal.

We break our feast up with an obligatory glass of Vimto, and then make our way over to the mains. The buffet spread is mainly made up of Arabic and Indian dishes, with a couple of European dishes also included.

We then make a beeline for the paneer and fish curries, paired with some of the best pillowy paratha bread we have had in a while. The shish tawook is a little dry, but the succulent laban kibbeh kebabs more than make up for that. At first we find the whole cooked lamb a little intimidating, but it turns out to be absolutely delicious, a must-try paired with Arabic rice.

To finish, we can’t pass up a chance to tuck into a little plate of baklava, with some scoops of refreshing Arabic coffee ice cream and a mini tiramisu. Delish!
